GALLERY

When looking at my past and present projects, there is one thing the pieces all attempt to explore, that being the idea of femininity. The feminine form is something I’ve always needed to capture the essence of, and I am often faced with surprise that my version of femininity is not what others foresee. With crooked, almost animal-like smiles and crazed confrontational eyes on top of suggestive, overconfident, or even threatening poses, the women I create portray a version of ourselves that I like to tell myself we all just don’t bring up in front of others. This wild, weird, and off-putting femininity is conveyed through loud colors and exaggerated, gummy-looking features usually created with colored pencil or oil paint. Because I just started art school at The Cleveland Institute of Art, I’ve had the opportunity to really get creative with what I’m using. Wool, bioplastic, cotton, and wood have been other things I’ve reached to lately.
